Category 1 Study Methods

Experimentation and innovation are at the core of our abuse-deterrent studies

Drug abusers can be very creative and skilled chemists, so our abuse-deterrent drug formulation studies have to be equally inventive. This requires using and developing innovative manipulation and extraction techniques that model those of abusers to safeguard your product formulation and prevent its compromise or ingestion via alternate methods.

With experience that spans a wide variety of abuse-deterrent (AD) and non-AD comparator drug formulations, DRUGSCAN’s CAT.one laboratory is an established innovator in developing new testing methods. We partner closely with you to meet your study requirements and employ a wide variety of testing methods.

Our Category 1 abuse-deterrent studies include:

  • Physical manipulation
  • Breaking force (“hardness”) testing
  • Chewing simulation
  • Extractability
  • Syringe-ability
  • Impact of pretreatments
  • Precipitation and liquid-liquid extraction
  • Smoking simulation
  • Vaping
  • Rectal administration simulation
  • In vitro nasal insufflation
  • Dissolution with alcohol (“dose dumping”)
  • Dissolution with physically manipulated material
